 Olga Tañón: Cuba is a country with lots of dignity

CAROLINA, Puerto Rico (AP) _ Olga Tañón admitió el viernes que los artistas que participaron en el concierto Paz sin fronteras'' en Cuba sintieron mucha presión antes de comenzar el espectáculo, pero describió el resultado final como maravilloso''.

La cantante arribó el viernes a su natal Puerto Rico, donde fue recibida por el secretario de Estado Kenneth McClintock, quien apoyó su participación en el controvertido espectáculo del pasado domingo.

Creo que la gente de producción entendió mal, pensaron que nosotros habíamos exigido las camisas blancas y que no dejaran entrar a nadie sin camisa blanca'', expresó la intérprete en una conferencia de prensa a su llegada al aeropuerto. Eso, más la percepción de Juanes de que estaba siendo vigilado y otras cositas, me hicieron pensar que hubo presión excesiva. Para mí, eso fue un micro, lo que pasó en el concierto fue el macro'', dijo.

Añadió ante las críticas que yo no me voy a poner a pelear con nadie'' y dijo que todo el mundo sabe que no soy comunista. Si me llaman así tendría que echarme a reír''. ´

Lo que sí digo es que lo que encontré en Cuba no era lo que me habían dicho. Es verdad que los cubanos carecen de muchas cosas, pero allí nadie está llorando. Es un pueblo con mucha dignidad'', sostuvo la boricua, quien agregó que aceptaría otra invitación para cantar allí.

Tañón regresó a su tierra sufriendo los efectos de una laringitis que le impidió hablar mucho, al punto que tuvo que interrumpir la conferencia de prensa varios minutos debido a un ataque de tos. Para la artista, el propósito de llevarle paz a Cuba se cumplió a cabalidad.

Lloramos, pasamos trabajo. Pero cuando vimos el resultado nos dimos cuenta de que hicimos lo correcto. No he parado de llorar porque el resultado fue maravilloso. Cuba dio cátedra y mostró que está listo para el mundo'', afirmó.

El jueves, se supo que horas antes del histórico concierto en La Habana Juanes amenazó con cancelar el evento, supuestamente enfurecido por la constante vigilancia de funcionarios cubanos y rumores de que la policía estaba bloqueando el paso del público al concierto.

En un vídeo captado por periodistas en el Hotel Nacional de La Habana la mañana del domingo, Juanes expresa: Estamos muy molestos, muy molestos... Estamos aquí por gente joven de Cuba, por el futuro de Cuba... Hemos encontrado una barrera muy fuerte y no lo vamos a permitir... Hemos venido con todo el cariño, con todo el respeto.

Esto no puede seguir así. Se acabó''. Sin embargo, el viernes el periódico oficial de Cuba Granma aseguró que las imágenes fueron mostradas fuera de contexto y el manager de Juanes, Fernán Martínez, confirmó en Miami la versión del rotativo.
